You may have noticed that certain watch manufacturers charge an outrageous amount of money for their watches. But is it so outrageous if it’s worth the price? What could possibly be on a gents watch that would make it cost so much?

When people think of expensive watches the first name that probably comes to mind is Rolex. Rolex has long since been known as the king of watch makers and carries some of the most expensive gents watches in the world. It’s not uncommon to find a Rolex gents watch selling at $50,000 dollars. That’s more than most people make in an entire year. The watches are made with the finest, nicest materials money can buy and can be custom made to your liking if you wish. Most Rolex’s are covered in diamonds, gold, titanium, steel, pearls and items that you would expect to find on such an expensive watch. Rolex watches are beautifully designed and are real eye catches … and did we mention they also tell time? As one might have guessed, Rolex’s are not mainly used for telling time but actually are seen as status symbols in our culture. If you see someone wearing a Rolex gents watch it can be assumed that this person is very wealthy and successful otherwise they could not afford such a time piece. People will treat others with respect almost instantly if they see this kind of watch on a person, so watches not only tell a lot about time, but a lot about the person who is wearing them.

// ]]>

So you’re not into spending your years salary on a gents watch? The good news is there is a priced watch for every type of income want / need out there. Most people are looking to spend under one hundred dollars on a gents watch because they want something that looks cool or nice, but at the same time won’t put them in debt and will last. Fossil is a watch company / manufacturer that creates great looking watches at affordable prices. Fossil is a very popular name brand in watches because you get a lot of bang for the buck. While you probably won’t find diamonds or gold on a fossil gents watches you’ll find that most of the money goes into the over styling of the watch. Many fossil watches come with unique designs or digital pictures on the face that make it cool to look at and a good conversation piece. You can find Fossil watches anywhere from thirty dollars to two hundred dollars for their more expensive types.

If you’re still looking for something a little less expensive then you are bound to find a gents watch for under ten dollars if you look on e-bay. E-bay has a wide variety of selections of watches for kids and adults that are made of cheap materials like plastic or thin cloth. These watches are good for Halloween costumes or if you’re just looking for that “ I don’t really care” look. Don’t expect these watches to keep accurate time or to last for very long. In the end you may end up replacing these so many times that you would have been better off simply purchasing a thirty dollar gents watch from Fossil. If you don’t care about getting knock off brands or cheaply made items E-bay can be a great place to shop for your wrist watches.

Let’s face it, fake gents watches are everywhere you look. Not only do you see people wearing them, have people selling them to you on the street, but you can even find them on the net being openly sold on E-bay. But are they actually good watches that are worth purchasing? Maybe it’s a good idea to buy a knock off product if you can spend much less money and still gain the social value from wearing a name brand like Tag Heuler or Rolex. It’s practical to assume that if you spend fifteen dollars on a fake Rolex that it could work like a fifteen dollar watch that would last you about a year and still look really cool on your arm.

If you’re looking to avoid purchasing fake gents watches altogether then your best bet is to only purchase from the manufacturer directly, or from authorized dealers. You can find a list of authorized dealers for a specific product at the home website for that manufacturer. For instance, if you go to the Rolex website you will find a link that lists authorized dealers – it’s safe to purchase from these people. Some will claim to be authorized dealers when they are not ; this is illegal and these people should not be trusted. This goes without saying, but never purchase a watch from someone off the street or at a pawn shop if you want to be sure it’s genuine. Some knock off’s will look very similar to the real thing but are made of very cheap material and will break soon. Even if someone off the street is selling genuine gents watches, where did they come from and how are they able to sell at such cheap prices? If you visit e-bay you will find several watches that look very nice but are being sold at a very cheap price. These are not necessarily knock off products but you should remember that watches can appear to be very nice through a picture when in reality they are very cheap. It’s best to purchase items that you can try on and get your fingers on to feel how durable and high quality (or low quality) the item is. This isn’t an option through e-bay and you will not be able to return the item since in all fairness what you get is exactly what you see in the picture.

This often comes down to a question of morals. You have to remember that the people who are selling fake products are taking away from potential sells that the manufacturer would have had. This is a form of stealing and some feel you shouldn’t support it. Others just look at it is a harmless way to get a neat looking watch at a cheap price. But you should remember, that while at just appearance these watches may look genuine, if a person touches the watch they can almost immediately tell that it is not real and this can lead to an embarrassing moment. People who buy fake watches to look cool and are found out are ironically not cool at all. Maybe it’s better to just purchase a genuine mediocre watch instead of a fake incredible watch. If you bought it to turn heads, then it will..and they will want to see more of the watch and upon inspection you’ll be found out!

It’s amazing what people can make gents watches do with today’s technology. It used to be only in movies like James Bond that you would see a watch that could shoot out a laser or call a person but now that only being in the future is a thing of the past!

gents watches can come with a variety of tools and gadgets attached to them to carry out certain functions. Are you looking for a watch that also changes television channels? They’ve got it! Just do a search for gents watches television remote and you’ll pull up a number of search results for exactly that. This can be a fun way to always have the remove next to you and at the same time keep track of what time your favorite shows are coming on. Do you enjoy the outdoors? If you like hiking or camping then a wrist watch that has a compass attached to it would suit you well. But that’s been around for a long time, why not take it to the next level and get a watch that has a GPS unit inside it? Imagine simply being able to look at your wrist and know exactly where you need to turn to get to your destination.

Other devices that have been wedged into the tiny area of gents watches are cellular phones. You can actually call people from your watch just as you would with a cell phone. If you don’t have the room to carry your cellular phone with you then this would make a great addition to your gear. Most of these come with headphone attachments or a speaker on it so you can hear the person you are speaking to. These can sometimes be bulky simply because you need to fit in all the numbers in order to dial someone. This is where you will see limitations with what you can do on watch simply because there isn’t enough space. There are also watches that are similar to a swiss army knife in that they contain different blades, scissors, toothpicks, tweezers and other handy items within the face of the watch. It’s also not uncommon to see watches that have a calculator built into the face of it so you can add things up quickly and conveniently.

Hopefully in the future we can more things built into watches like the ability to synchronize with our e-mail, watch videos, or how about a hologram watch that displays the time above the face in 3d? Believe it or not this is already in the making and some of these watches exist but are tough to find.

If you’ve owned any amount of gents watches in your life time you may have realized that they are more like arm hair removers that also tell time. This is specific to gents watches not because of the design of gents watches but because ideally, women will not have hair long enough on their forearms for the wrist watches to pull out and if they do… it could be considered a good thing. Stereotypically the most common gents watches that are notorious for causing you to groan with pain as you pull your arm up to view the time are pin linked gents watches. Pin linked gents watches have several plates that are connected to one another by miniature pins that allow it to bend and flex to the contour of the arm. Unlike wrist band watches or gents watches that are only a leather bracelet and time face plate, these pin linked watches can get things caught (specifically arm hair) in them as they move around. They pinch at the skin and most often the hair and as they slide around this will occur more and more often.

How do you avoid the pains of getting your arm hair pulled? Well the quick and easy answer would be to not wear a watch, but most people enjoy the fashion it brings to your overall look and other like being able to have quick access to the time and date or timer that are on some gents watches. If you have especially long arm hair around your wrists then may want to consider gents watches that have a solid band made of cloth or leather so that it cannot pull your hair. Another option that is sometimes done is to take tape and stick it to the underside of the watch stretching the length of each side of it so that the links can only pinch the tape, and not the hair. The down side to this is that tape can make the watch look tacky and sometimes can even back fire if the tape sticks to your hair. Then you will have a watch and tape pulling at your arm causing you pain.

Another alternative is to look for specially made gents watches that are designed to minimize the amount of hair pulled out of your arm by the links. They do this by making the watch appear to be connected by links on the outside, but if you look under you will see a solid strip of metal that is connecting all of the links together. This works great for avoiding the pain but makes the watch not as flexible. Another disadvantage is that you will not be able to size the watch as it isn’t made up of links but rather made of one solid piece. You can also purchase specially made stick pads that will adhere to the underside of your gents watch. This is similar to using tape but they are designed to stay on the watch longer and are often covered in felt on the other side instead of just tape which allows a nice fit and feel to your arm.

The final solution to avoid gents watches that yank out your hair is to shave your wrist. This works out great and is hardly noticeable as long as you’re still wearing a watch. But if you ever go out and forget your watch you may find people staring at your one bare wrist. If you have lighter colored hair this may not be an issue as people wouldn’t notice, but for those who have dark black or brown hair shaving your wrists is probably not the best options.

In general there are only two types when looking for gents watches: those that have an arm band that is interconnected by several “links” that form the entire wrist of the watch, and ones that have a solid band that is made of some type of material and is not connected.

Determining which type you are going to buy is going to come down to your own personal preference as one isn’t distinctly better over others. Linked watches are typically thought of as nicer watches and you will normally see this design on business attire or when people are going out to a nice restaurant or club. If you are dressing up and want to look nice, gents watches with linked bands are going to be the way to go. If you are dressing more casual, are going to be running or playing a sport, being out-doors or simply want a more laid back appearance then you may want to consider gents watches with a solid band. The band is typically made of some kind of tough cloth material like denim, hard cotton, or even leather. The leather band gents watches give a very cool look and can be dyed different colors other than brown to be more versatile. They are very durable and make the watch look nicer than one with a band made of cloth. Leather band gents watches are usually not worn for sporting activities as they are heavier and will stick to your skin unlike a cloth material or nylon that is sometimes used for these watches.

Another aspect to take into consideration when determining which type of gents watches to purchase is the sizing. With a linked wrist watch you are able to change the size at any time you wish by simply taking it to a jeweler and having them add or remove links to the watch to change the length of the band. This is great for people who are still growing, specifically kids or if you are unsure of how you like to wear your watch. Some people start off getting it too tight, or gain weight and want to have some links removed later on so it feels better. Most jewelers can have this issue resolved for under twenty dollars. gents watches that have a solid band don’t have this ability as there are no links and the length is permanently set. Often you are stuck with only getting the watch that fits you in the store, if they don’t have it then you are out of luck and must look someplace else for the watch. This issue is partially resolved by having several holes placed into the band of the gents watch similar to a belt so you can get the sizing correct, but just as not all belts fit all people, not all wrist watches fit all people.

In the end you may just decide to purchase more than one gents watch, one for work and going out to nicer places, and another that you will use when you want a more sporty, laid back look. The casual watches will be less expensive in general and you can even find some for under twenty dollars that will still look cool but do their job and last a fair amount of time.
